UAE Polo Team Takes the Fourth Trophy of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series 2019

UAE Polo remains unbeaten as the team proudly lifted the trophy as the champion of the Dubai Challenge Cup 2019.

The rainy afternoon started with the Subsidiary match between Dubai Wolves and Shansal/PBS with each chukker on equal footing, score-wise. The Dubai Wolves earned their first three goals from Ahmed Al Habtoor and Justo Cuitino, while Shansal/PBS delivered consistent goals from each player and settled the penultimate chukker with a one and a half goal lead. The determining chukker had the Dubai Wolves grab the win from Shansal, as both Justo Cuitino and Marcos Araya contributed two goals and ended the match at 8 - 7.5.

Dubai Wolves team: 3 - 3.5 | 5 - 4.5 | 6 - 7.5 | 8 - 7.5

The awaited Final of the Dubai Challenge Cup had two teams led by Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikha Alya Al Maktoum. UAE Polo competed against AM Polo with the opening goal from the young Lucas Monteverde Jr. followed by another one from Alejandro Muzzio which gave way for an early lead for the UAE Polo team. Sheikha Maitha closed the second chukker with a goal that gave them a three-goal advantage over AM Polo. The next two chukkers had seen a total of four goals from Guillermo Cuitino, but UAE Polo had kept its momentum of goals until the end. Monteverde scored the last goal for the team and closed the game with 8 goals to 5.

Dubai Wolves team: 2 - 1 | 4 – 1 | 6 - 3 | 8 – 5

Mohammed Al Habtoor, Vice Chairman and CEO of Al Habtoor Group awarded the runners-up and winners of the Dubai Challenge Cup 2019.  Lucas Monteverde Jr. as the Most Valuable Player and MDQ, played by Sheikha Alya Al Maktoum, won the Best Playing Pony.


About the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series

The Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series held in the UAE is one of only five tournaments in the world played in the WPT Championship Cup category, on a par with world-class events held in Argentina, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States. It was founded by its Chairman Mohammed Al Habtoor in 2009. The Silver Cup and the Dubai Challenge Cup falls under the World Polo Tour (WPT) Challenge Cup Category awarding the winners of the Silver Cup with 50 points, the finalists with 25, semi-finalists with 10 and the rest of the players with 5 points; and Dubai Challenge Cup winners with 20 points. The Gold Cup is under the WPT Championship Cup – the highest competition in terms of points, awarding its winners with 80 points.
