The Julius Baer Gold Cup 2019 had seen exciting wins during the Subsidiary Semi-Final. The first subsidiary semi-final match between Ghantoot and Dubai Wolves was a close encounter from start to finish. Marcos Araya and Manuel Crespo combined brilliantly in the first 2 chukkas to get some early goals on the board for the Wolves. Goals from Ghantoot’s, Juan Gris Zavaleta and Martin Donovan left the scores even at half time. In the second half the game really opened up and Raja Abuljabain scored an amazing goal and helped the Wolves secure their first win in the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series with a final score of 10 goals to 9.

The match between Zedan and Mahra was a highly anticipated one. The game was a close one from start and the scores at half time were locked at 3-3. Pelayo Berazadi had an amazing end to end run to goal with what may have been the goal of the tournament. Rauli Laplacette kept his team in the game with some penalties in the first half from 30 and 60 yards. The second half started with a 60 yard hit by Santiago Laborde, this and a field goal from Martin “Gato” Gandara helped them gain a one-goal advantage heading into the 5th chukker at 5 - 4. The 2 quick goals from Gato and Laborde in the last chukker gave Zedan a three-goal advantage. A 30-yard penalty from Berazadi couldn’t help them get back on track as Laborde scored again and helped Zedan secure a place in the Subsidiary Final with 8 goals to 5. Zedan will play against Dubai Wolves at the Bentley Cup Final on Friday, 8th March.
