Wolves defeats Abu Dhabi in a thrilling match

20th  March 2017, DUBAI, UAE:  The third day of action for the Dubai Challenge Cup, the fourth tournament of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series 2017, held under the patronage of HH Sheik Maktoum Bin Mohammed showed an exciting match between Wolves Polo and Abu Dhabi.

 

Wolves defeated Abu Dhabi by 11 goals to 10 in a thrilling game that was decided in the last second of the match with a great goal scored by Ezequiel Martínez Ferrario.

 

Both teams played five even chukkers with the lead in the score changing constantly. Abu Dhabi achieved a two goal difference in the fourth chukker that seemed to give them a slight advantage for the final seven minutes.

But Wolves made a great comeback in the last chukker to turn things over. First with a great individual action by Tariq Al Habtoor to score the best goal of the match, then with two more goals by Manuel Crespo and finally the last second shot by Ezequiel Martínez Ferrario for a celebrated victory by 11-10.

 

Manuel Crespo (Wolves) was the top scorer of the match with 6 goals and Joaquín Pittaluga the top scorer in Abu Dhabi with 4.

The Dubai Challenge Cup continues next Wednesday at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club with Zedan Polo playing against Bin Drai from 4.30 pm.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

About The Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series

Founded by Mohammed Al Habtoor in 2009. Since inception the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series has grown from strength to strength. Today, it is ranked among the best polo tournaments in the world. Now an 18 goal handicap competition, it is the highest handicapped event in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. It was first recognized by the World Polo Tour (WPT) in 2012. Three years later the WPT upgraded the tournament from Challenge Cup to the highly coveted WPT Cup, providing winners with 80 points. Dubai Sports Council:

Dubai Sports Council is the official government body responsible for the development of the sport sector in the Emirate of Dubai. Under the Chairmanship of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and its 14 Board Members; the Council supervises the work of nine local clubs in Dubai, six of which practice a variety of individual and or team sports, such as football, handball and archery; in addition to the chess club and a club devoted for those with special needs.
