13/01/2017

A very successful first Horse and Hound event at Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club

The Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club, opened up its doors to the dog community of Dubai inviting them in for a fun family day out. The Al Habtoor Horse and Hound Event will be a recurring event, especially after the great response from visitors. Over 1000 guests came through the doors to the inaugural event.

Katie Arbourne, volunteer said: "It is an amazing initiative which is definitely required in Dubai. There's not many places for us dog owners to take our pets, so spending a day outside with them, family and friends is an exciting prospect! I helped judge some of the dog classes at the inaugural event, and the positive feedback was overwhelming! People are desperate for more events like this and super enthusiastic for the next one!”

Over 47 entries were made for the 6 hound competition classes, including classes such as a speed jumping class where dog and handler had to run and jump through a course of small and big jumps timed and the fastest won. A popular competition was “The Waggiest Tail” a fun class for kids and dogs that show excitement. All dogs entering the grounds had their vaccination booklets checked by 2 feet 4 paws veterinary clinic.

The horse and hound competition where two people work as a team, the first one jumps the course on a horse and when returning to the start the person with the dog jumps through the course and the fastest team wins. Winner Noha Sidding said: “This was the most fun competition ever! Can’t wait for the next one.”

The Pink Caravan, a local charity in support of breast cancer research were partners of the event and had the test rides for riders wanting to join the #7for7 ride. The #7for7 ride is a ride on horseback through the seven Emirates over the course of 10 days. Anyone wishing to enter the ride has to be assessed first to ensure they have basic riding skills. Over 30 riders were assessed and signed up during the course of the day.

Families flocked to the grass field, to let their children jump in the bouncy castle, get face painting, balloon animals and free pony rides. The shopping village had fun and interesting things and the food trucks proved very popular satisfying all the hungry tummies.

A fun and relaxed day out for all.
